Vertel (SA)

Following the placement of significant orders by Readymix Concrete and the City of Onkaparinga, Tetracom and Vertel have installed a seamless, wide-area radio network that provides users with coverage from beyond the Barossa Valley through to Mount Compass in South Australia.

This public access network, marketed as TeamTalk, uses trunking technology to provide users with a virtual private network with no visibility of other users.  The network supports many advanced features such as individual (private) call, group call, PSTN (telephone) access and is the perfect technology for the implementation of many data solutions.

Tetracom chose Tait MPT1327 equipment for this system which provides the widest coverage of any commercially available radio network in South Australia.

Based on an open standard, many manufacturers produce equipment that is compatible with this network.  This is a crucial factor when considering a trunking technology as proprietary systems inevitably lead to unhappy customers that are trapped with a single supplier.

Tetracom have supplied Motorola, Icom, Kenwood, Tait and Simoco equipment for use on the network.  The City of Onkaparinga operates throughout some extremely hilly terrain making saturation coverage of their council area very difficult.  Tetracom have installed a Cell Extender to provide coverage in-fill to one particularly important but difficult to access location.  This Cell Extender is transparent to the users who roam between sites without realising the technology that they are utilising.
